What. A. Year. We Get It in 2020

Well. No prizes for guessing what the main challenge of 2020 was. We spent a large part of the year getting to know the insides of our homes extremely well. We worried about hospital wait times. We isolated. We shielded. We spoke to loved ones through smartphone cameras. We became both addicted and allergic to the news.

We got our shit together very quickly and did our best to support the We Get It community over this very tricky year. We also lost some wonderful community members from our group. We’re thinking of them and their families as we move into 2021, towards a light at the end of a very long tunnel.

Here’s a roundup of everything we achieved in 2020 with your support.

January

  • Yoga Workshop with Bath Yoga Studio and Hanora Health

  • Launched our WGI Podcast with BA1 Radio 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly'

  • The We Get It Cancer Girls, Laura & Sarah feature on the Laura Rawlings BBC Radio Bristol Show

  • Attended our first charity conference with The Business Exchange at Bath Racecourse

  • Nominated finalist at The Bath Life Awards, Bath Assembly Rooms

  • Move, Dance, Feel Workshop at Walcot House

  • Launched our We Get It Private Facebook Community Page

  • Launched our We Get It WhatsApp Community Group

  • Launched our ZOOM Get Together

April

  • Launched our ZOOM Pub Night

May

  • 100k in May first We Get It fundraiser, raising £2000 for We Got You goodie bags

  • Delivered 15 x We Got You Bags to the We Get It Community

  • Launched We Got You Wednesday online exclusive events

  • We officially achieved CHARITY STATUS!!

  • First Facebook Live on Shielding and Unshielding

  • Second Facebook Live on The Cancer Crisis

  • We Get It Podcast appears on BBC Upload, featured on both BBC Bristol and BBC Sounds

August

  • Death Workshop for the We Get It team with Sue Brayne, Death Cafe Facilitator

  • Sarah Baker featured on the Adam Crowther BBC Upload and BBC Radio Bristol Show

September

  • Launched our brand-new Friends & Family Hangout

October

  • Uploaded our We Get It podcast to iTunes and Spotify

  • Filming day at Walcot House, capturing our We Get It community cancer stories.

November

  • Let's Talk About Death webinar with Sophie Sabbage

  • Death, grief and bereavement training with Dorothy House staff

December

  • Dorothy House and We Hear You join our Get Together

  • Nominated finalist at Virtual Rewards Award with The Business Exchange South West for Team of the Year

  • Delivered 30 x We Get It Christmas Hampers to the We Get It Community
